Epidemiological Study Protective Effect for Ear Protector

Abstract
Noise is the one of the most important enviromental risk factor exposed to soldiers. But there was neither prevalence data nor preventive strategy on nolse-induced hearing loss. Especially hearing conservation is one
of important factors to
maintain
combat capability. For that it is essential to use personal ear protector in view point of military medicine
So this study was done to grasp the prevalence and protective effect of ear protector on noise-in-duced hearing loss intankmen and artillerymen. One tank battalion and one artillery battalion were investigated on september 30 and October 5 in
1991.
The
number of subject was 162 in tank battalion and 210 in artillery battalion.
@ES The results were as follos.
@EN 1. The prevalence of noise-induced hearing loss was 8.6% in tankmen, 11.9% in artillerymen.
2. There was 12.3% of tankmen, 23.8% of artillerymen who complained symptoms after exposure of noise in military service.
3. There was 33.9% of artilerymen who always place hands over ears at shooting, but that method is shown no protective effect on noise-induced hearing loss.
4. There was no ear protector for tankman, the earplug was the only hearing protector for artillerymen, but 7.6% of artillerymen has used earplug. And earplug is effective to prevent noise
